THESE
ARE MY COMMENTS, gained
from my visits to KOS over many years, and I really believe that you will enjoy any of the trips or
restaurants listed below.

you find my comments useful please let me know by signing the Guest Book

Like anything else, book your own trips and car
hire, it is MUCH cheaper. At ML Rent a Car, Mike will rent you an air
conditioned Atos or similar for about Euros €35.00. per day, A
basic Jeep costs about the same, and a Jimny costs about €50.00. Euros a day. including ALL taxes and Insurance. We now have a
7 seater Hyundai MPV with Air Conditioning.
Try a THREE day at first, then you can see
all the Island at your leisure.
Eight to Ten minutes walk from
the Dolphin Square is the Caravan Restaurant, which is owned an operated by
Hasan, a great fellow who will make you feel at home. He does ALL the waiting
on and his wife and father-in-law do the cooking, it is all cooked on open
coals and the food is FRESH every day, he goes to the market at 7.30. am. The
food is delicious, it is served hot and fantastic value. Try the A'la Tony, or
the Chicken Souvlaki, in fact it is all very good. Don't go if you are in a
hurry, it takes ages to pay the bill and he ALWAYS gives you a drink on the
house. NB. Breakfasts are good as well from 9.00. am.

OLIVE
A
TRADITIONAL GREEK MEZE RESTAURANT
27. Apelou Ifestou, in the old
town Kos. Telephone: ( 0030 ) 2242 022133
Olive is a Traditional Greek
Meze Restaurant, which you will find on the left hand side near the top of the
old cobbled street in the old town. I think that it is VERY good and it is
also very reasonably priced. I love it, it's different.
The location is
ideal for all kind of tastes. The hotel is at the side street parallel to the
main one leading to the harbour. The area provides for shopping, entertainment
and relaxation. There are plenty of shops, mini & supermarkets,
restaurants, coffee shops & bars at a walking distance.
The Alice Springs Hotel consists of both apartments
and hotel rooms which have TV and air-conditioning units in each room. It is
situated about 1.5 km from Kos Town Centre in an area known as Lambi, and it
is in a great position very near to the beach.
It is a family hotel run by George and Barbara who combine a friendly welcome with a genuine enjoyment of meeting with and ensuring that their guests have a
great holiday, and enjoy the best that Kos has to offer. George is a mine of information about Kos, its history and good places to visit. He
will give you a lot of good advice which will ensure that you see the best of Kos and thoroughly enjoyed
your holiday.
The complex has a good sized pool and plenty of sun beds, plus chairs/tables arranged around the pool area. There is a table football, pool table, and a table ice-hockey game, plus two internet enabled computers by the
poolside and a large TV. There is
internet access in the reception area too.
By the poolside there is also a bar area which serves hot and cold food and
drinks.
THE BAR AND SNACK BAR ARE OPEN TO NON HOTEL

Pserimos Island, near Kos,
Greece.

If
you want to really relax for one, or two weeks, or just a couple of days, you
can stay at the Hotel Tripolitis on Pserimos. The business in owned and run by
Nikos and Anna, and they are great and really look after you. Give them a call
on the telephone and you can book a double room for about 15/20 euros a night.
There are no roads on Pserimos and it has a great safe sandy beach which the
children will love. After about 4.00.pm when all the day trip boats have left,
it is very quite so you can really relax and have a meal in the Taverna. One
to get there is to take THE KATERINA BOAT and ask
George the Captain if he will drop you off in Pserimos and then you can get
the boat back in 2 or 3 days time.
This is the best shop in Kos to
get ALL your Jewellery. They are very honest and reliable and stay open all
the year round and have been trading since 1980.
**************************
BAR STREET AND HARBOUR AREA.
The
harbour is very pretty at night with all the lights on the boats etc. A Tip
- be careful when you visit the bars as you will pay a fair bit more for
your drinks, and you sometimes get 330ml bottles for the same price as 500ml
bottles which are sold in the bars and restaurants away from the
harbour. Having said that it is nice to sit in a bar down by the harbour and
watch the world go by. Try my friend at THE FLAMINGO BAR which is situated
about 30 meters from The Dolphin Roundabout. It is the bar opposite where
THE KATERINA docks.

HORSE RIDING
Salt Lake Stables
There are a few places to go Horse Riding in
Kos, the
one which I know is located by the The Salt Lake.
The Salt lake can be found on the road between
Marmari and Tigaki, you turn towards the sea opposite the Go Cart track.
They do two hour Sunset Rides along the beach
as well as other rides and they can provide riding clothes.
The stables are run by a Canadian lady and her
telephone number is: (0030) 6944104446
I have not been riding myself so I cannot
offer any advice, I just know the location.

OTHER THINGS TO DO IN KOS
TOWN.
Take a trip on one or both of the 'Noddy'
trains. The GREEN one goes around the town pointing out the various sites
etc. It departs from KOS Town harbour, and the BLUE one goes up to
THE ASKLIPIEIO, and that one departs from opposite the Police Station. Make
sure that you find a seat which faces the direction that you are going as
the commentary tells you that the ?????? is on your left etc., but if you
are sitting with your back to the Noddy Train it gets confusing as you keep
looking on the wrong side and then you have missed them.
**************************
PLAKA - VISIT
THE PEACOCKS
I am not too sure how you spell it, but if you
are driving FROM Kos Town past the AIRPORT there is a wire fence on the left
around the airport parameter, on the RIGHT you will come to a small turning
to PLAKA by a small blue and white building, go down the road through the
wooded area and you will come to a picnic area where you can have a barbecue
and feed the PEACOCKS.
**************************
EMPROS THERMA
Get yourself a Jeep from M.L.Rentacar and
explore, try the EMPROS THERMA, you can get into the sea and the temperature
is around 70 degrees, it is just like having a hot bath. It is volcanic and
they say that it is very good for ALL skin complaints and joints. In my
opinion it is best to visit before 10.00.am or after 6.00.pm as it gets very
busy during the day. You can catch a number 5 bus from Kos Town Harbour, I
think that it departs at a quarter to the hour every hour and takes about 15
/ 20 minutes. Some people complain that it SMELLS, come on it IS VOLCANIC
what do they expect!
**************************
ZIA.
Zia is a village situated in the mountains,
about a half hour drive from Kos Town. It is a nice place to visit even
though it is like a large tourist shop. I think that is a good place to
visit in the evening as you can see fantastic sunsets over Turkey. My
friends restaurant is called OREMEDON and it has a roof garden, it is the
first one on the right after you have passed the wall when you enter Zia. On
Sunday lunchtime they serve Traditional Roast Goat, which is similar to Lamb
but a lot healthier.
**************************
KEFELOS.
SNACK BAR KALIMERA
My friend Gilly's Snack Bar is called
Kalimera, and is situated in Kefelos Village next to the bank. As you go up
to Kefelos up the steep road keep turning right towards the Fort of Kefelos
and you will see it on the right as soon as you turn right, there is car
parking opposite the snack bar. Gilly has recently opened and she would be
grateful of your support.
**************************
LIMIONAS
Situated down by KEFELOS you will find the
small beach called LIMINONAS, it also has a very good Restaurant of the same
name, and it has a great name for serving very good fish. NOTE - The
Restaurant does NOT open until about 11.30.am.
**************************
Cafe Die Grobe Muhle
- Limionas
When you travel to this area make sure that
you visit this cafe which is situated in an old restored windmill, the apple
strudel is the best that there is.
